Happiness

People are just as happy as they make up their minds to be. ― Abraham Lincoln

A couple of days ago as I was deep into meditation I started wondering about Happiness. I was thinking how much happier I’ve become since last year, amazed about how simplifying my life had helped me getting to this point.

Then as I’m as human as the next guy, I started thinking, “So, What now?”. I stopped myself, Why would I want to set myself another goal if I’m happy now? This is a common mistake we make. We never give up on wanting more.

So I started thinking about what is that I really need to be happy and to keep being happy. The answer came to me as a life changing revelation.

To be truly happy we need nothing.

You see, during our life we keep postponing happiness untill we reach something. Getting an A in the next exam will make us happy, getting that promotion we so much want will make us happy. Quitting our ugly job will make us happy, buying those beautiful boots will make us really happy. I could keep on going forever.

We Constantly make ourselves promises about being happy after we get something out of life. Turning this into a vicious cycle, setting a new goal as soon as we finish the last to reach that elusive happiness we so much want.

Ask yourself, “Why wait?”.

Take a deep, bring yourself to this moment, and just be happy. Try this every time you start promising yourself happiness after reaching a self-imposed goal.

Set yourself goals to have fun if you like, but never use future happiness as a way to get things done. Be happy now, don’t waste another second.

You’ll see how your life gets immediately brighter.
